| What is Temper Dysregulation Disorder with Dysphoria? (TDD)Temper Dysregulation Disorder with Dysphoria is a proposed new diagnostic category under DSM-5. It is classified as a disorder first appearing in childhood and characterized by severe recurrent temper outbursts in response to common stressors. The temper outbursts would occur three or more times per week on average with a persistent negative mood between outbursts. The diagnosis could not be made until age 6 (bad 2 and 3 year olds need not apply) but must have an onset before age 10.For further reading review the Justification for Temper Dysregulation Disorder with Dysphoria from DSM5.org. The purpose of the proposal was to add another diagnostic category to reduce the amount that children will this presentation will be diagnosed with pediatric bipolar disorder. It is also intended to assist with differentiating diagnoses like ADHD, ODD, Conduct Disorder, intermittent explosive disorder and Bipolar Disorder in children. The exact impact that this potential diagnosis would have is not well known.
